BoFiNet Brings World-Class Connectivity to the World Athletics Relays 2026 – A Step Forward for Botswana's Digital Future

When the world converged on Gaborone for the World Athletics Relays 2026, the seamless broadcast of every race, every victory, and every historic moment was powered by world-class connectivity, and BoFiNet was proud to play a pivotal role.

As a co-sponsor of this prestigious global event, alongside BTC, BoFiNet contributed critical digital infrastructure that transformed the National Stadium into an international broadcast hub. Our investment, valued at over P830,000, delivered a dedicated 10Gbps high-capacity internet connection, alongside comprehensive fibre and structured cabling for the National Stadium and associated venues. This ensured the flawless broadcast and operational standards expected of a World Athletics event, while demonstrating Botswana's readiness to host the world.

BoFiNet's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Geoffrey Seleka, captured the significance of the moment: "This investment goes beyond the event itself, creating a lasting technological legacy. By showcasing our advanced fibre optic capabilities, we are reinforcing Botswana's position as a regional hub for connectivity and innovation. The infrastructure we deploy and the expertise we contribute will leave a lasting capability that strengthens our local ICT sector and builds capacity for future international events."

The partnership, facilitated through the Ministry of Communications and Innovation alongside (Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited) BTCL, underscored the power of collaboration in positioning Botswana on the global stage. It demonstrated that wholly owned Botswana companies possess the expertise, infrastructure, and reliability to meet the rigorous demands of international sporting events.

For BoFiNet, this was about more than sponsorship, it was about demonstrating that Botswana is ready, capable, and leading. The world watched Botswana through a lens of reliable, high-speed connectivity, and BoFiNet was proud to be part of the digital backbone making it possible.

As the nation welcomed the world, BoFiNet stood as a partner in progress, building a connected future and proving that Botswana's digital infrastructure is truly world-class.
