BoFiNet Connects WTISD 2026 – Enabling Digital Inclusion and Celebrating Botswana's ICT Journey

The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2026 commemoration, held on 23 May 2026 at Natale Primary School in the Tonota District, was a powerful statement of Botswana's digital ambition. In a historic convergence, the Ministry of Communications and Innovation combined WTISD with Girls in ICT Day, delivering two transformative events that underscored the nation's commitment to an inclusive, knowledge-driven economy.

BoFiNet stood at the centre of this milestone as the official connectivity partner, providing the critical digital infrastructure that powered the entire commemoration. From live demonstrations to virtual participation, our network ensured seamless, uninterrupted connectivity, a testament to the resilience and reach of Botswana's national fibre backbone. This was a demonstration of our core mandate: to build, operate, and sustain the digital arteries that connect every corner of the nation, enabling participation, innovation, and growth.

A defining moment of the day was the visit by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Innovation, David Tshere, to the BoFiNet stall. It was an honour to showcase our journey through our brand film, which resonated powerfully with all in attendance. The stall became a hub of engagement, drawing students, educators, parents, and community leaders, all eager to understand BoFiNet's role in shaping Botswana's digital destiny. To deepen engagement, we hosted an interactive quiz, rewarding participants and sparking curiosity about the digital economy.
